Not to sure if anyone is looking into doing this swap, but when I was looking the cheapest place I found was Japan Motor Import. They have everything for $2,000 + shipping.

that would be pretty cool... the wheel base is about the same. but remember you have to have a way to make a suspension so the drivetrain will work, you would need a way to mount the engine and trans. your basicly going to be redoing everything exept the body of the car. and you will probably have to modify that to.
nice idea but it would require alot of time and alot(!!!) of money.
i don't mean to piss on your parade

gti-r motors are rwd based, u would want a "blue bird" model in which case u would need almost all the parts from a 00-02 sr20, in which case the vq swap would end up being like 10k cheaper, food for thought

GTi-R motors are transverse mounted(like any other FWD 4cylinder), not RWD. The came in the Pulsar GTi-R which was an AWD hatch. The u12 & u13 bluebird SR20DETs came out in 91' overseas in there Altima equivalent, the Bluebird. The GTi-R SR20DET will mate up to a FWD sr20 trans, or a b15 6spd with proper add ons. Motor will also fit in B13s,B14s, and B15s...

They're certainly are not RWD based. You're thinking of another SR20; out of a Silvia. The Blue Bird (what I have) and GTi-R motors are basically the same. Main differences being individual throttle bodies, and the GTi-R uses a T28 turbo, as opposed to the Blue Bird's T25. But the GTi-R itself is on an AWD platform, however it still bolts to a standard B13/14 tranny.

th gtir motor actually has itb's, t28 with a better flowing turbo mani and j pipe, solid lifters(sounds like a bad tap at an idle lol) and the head is the same design as the old-school hemi's so it helps with pre-detonation and what not. and it will fit on the b15 sr20 trans although they arent really worth a shit unless its an lsd from a PP sentra

its actually not as hard as you would think. you would need to get the wire harness out of a 00-01 2.0 se sentra which came with the sr20. and if you wanted to, you can do a spec v 6 speed swap in which you would need all the spec v manual stuff but you would need to buy a p12 bellhousing and a flywheel/clutch(a company called mazworkz has all the stuff you would need). just make sure that you get the proper tuned ecu from either calumsult or jwt and wire in the resistors for the gtir injectors and salvage the small bit of harness from the gtir for the knock sensor, iacv, and another sensor which i cant remember right off hand lol. they would get your car to wake up, just make sure its done correctly. but if you really wanted to, go with a sr20ve and boost that. the motors are newer and 99% came in an automatic so less of a chance for them to be beat like a gtir ;)
